Justgiving Page

If you'd like to support the work of Wheels for the World, the overseas arm of Through the Roof then a donation to my Justgiving page would be very welcome:

Just to make it clear, the money raised this way goes not to me but to WftW, towards the considerable overheads of transporting the renovated wheelchairs out to Kenya. The gift of a wheelchair to someone who is unable to get around and could never afford one is a life-transforming event.

Words don't convey the joy the way a photo does. Here's  a delighted recipient from my Ghana trip in 2007.

Training Day Saturday 15th February

Training Day was squeezed in (for me at any rate) the day before going on holiday - so 'twas a bit tight but well worth it. Met most of the members of the team (a couple of them were unable to make it.)

Reninca, who heads up Wheels for the World, had produced a comprehensive pack with lots of info which was a great help especially as I have a sieve for a brain at the moment! I discovered this is our leader Eileen's 19th trip to Kimilili and her 14th actually leading it! We're in good hands then!

Looking back, looking forward

Just over seven years ago I was privileged to go to Ghana with "Wheels for the World", the overseas branch of "Through the Roof" - a Christian organisation meeting the needs of disabled people. You can read my blog "Wheels for Ghana". It was an eye-opening, life-changing trip. http://christinethefizz.blogspot.co.uk/

This year I have the opportunity to visit Kenya with Wheels for the World (WftW). I have been to Kenya before - when Nick and I were on study leave. If you wish, you can read about that trip on another blog http://www.christine-kenyatrip.blogspot.co.uk/

This time I will be going somewhere new - to Kimilili where there have been many previous WftW distributions.   I am really excited to be going.  I will be paying my own way but in addition I hope to raise some funds for WftW because it is expensive to ship the wheelchairs from the UK to Mombasa, Kenya. More about that soon! From the filling in of the application form, and the email to say I'm on the team, to thinking about fund-raising.... the trip just got a whole load closer!
